Fabulous Five on Iceland

Tuesday, December 9, 2008

In spring 2006 our band Fabulous Five had the pleasure of participating in a jazz competition held at Jazzclub Fasching in Stockholm, Sweden. Luck was with us, and we won the whole thing, giving us the chance to go to Iceland.

There we played in another competition called Young Nordic Jazz Comets, but also got the chance to travel around and see this amazing country, something I will take with me for the rest of my life.

When visiting Iceland, I felt like I was closer to nature than I have ever been. The landscape is totally amazing, something I had never seen before. You get reminded of the forces of nature all the time, seeing steam rise from the ground in the middle of nowhere, and driving on streets and living in houses warmed up by the heat from the natural springs. Actually just looking out the window can take your breath away, it’s that beautiful.

A highlight of the trip was to visit the Þingvellir National Park, might be the most beautiful place on earth (I can’t really tell since I haven’t seen them all). Visiting Geysir was another highlight, really giving us the chance to experience the forces of mother nature up close. Actually just being there and learning about this amazing country was well worth the visit. If you ever get the chance to go there, take it!
