A new generation of horn players, the group Neighborhood brings music shining in conception and execution.

Influenced by the music of the 70’s the group presents a personal style beyond the contemporary music streams. The group underlines their Attitude with the introducing track. Listen to the great horn arrangement comparable with groups like Tower of Power or Chicago.

Neighbourhood – Maybe Tomorrow

A string composition is introducing into Fly. The lead is taken over by the mighty brass guiding to Jens Filipson’s excellent sax and Aleks Brdaski’s groovin’ bass solo. The music picks up speed with the sizzling Roll The Dice featuring Edvon Nahlin on Fender Rhodes and a splendid Kristian Persson with an extensive solo.

A further feast of horns is Blow My Mind presenting in prominent roles Jonne Bentlöv on trumpet, Jens Filipsson on sax and of course Kristian Persson on trombone. Generation Irony is an outrageously brilliant harmony of horns with Kristian in a good place.

Great (and funny) Neighbourhood review

Hallandsposten is the next Swedish newspaper to give Neighbourhood a 4 out of 5 score for our debut album Maybe Tomorrow.

Apart from a really great review, the fact that he labels it Funk for fuck must be one of the funniest things anyone has ever written about us.

We received two great reviews on the concert we did with Neighbourhood at Drömfabriken in Sandviken two days ago.

So far our debut album tour has been a great success, which also shows in the reviews we have received so far. Swedish newspapers Gefle Dagblad and Arbetarbladet gave the concert in Sandviken a 4 out of 5 and a 6 out of 6 score. Fantastic!

I’m convinced that they will make a big impression. This week they release their debut album. Buy it! You won’t be disappointed.

On stage they’re even better than on CD. During the concert this Wednesday night all six of them got the opportunity to stretch out in imaginative solos.

First Neighbourhood album review!

Neighbourhood just received a fantastic first album review of our debut album Maybe Tomorrow.

Swedish newspaper Värmlands Folkblad wrote the first album review, and what a great review it is! You can read the original in Swedish, or a translated English version below.

What a debut from this sextet. Three horn players up front: Kristian Persson, trombone (who also have composed and arranged the delicious music), Jens Filipsson, saxophones/flute and Jonne Bentlöv, trumpet, sound so good together, and on their own, that the hairs on my neck stand up all the time. Here is a brilliant rhythm section and keys from the golden age of funk. Also, all of them seems to be raised up on soul stew from Memphis. Add to this some nice string passages and a beautiful intervention from Nils Berg on bass clarinet, and a 5 of 5 score is not far away. You can no longer count the Swedish jazz stars.

We’re celebrating our upcoming album release with a new Myspace look!

Our very talented drummer Sebastian Ågren has designed the new Neighbourhood Myspace. Apart from the new design, you can listen to some sound clips from the upcoming album. There are also some videos and other goodies to be found there.

It’s only about a week left before we release our Neighbourhood – Maybe Tomorrow album, and now it’s possible to pre-order the album!

We are very happy to announce that we’ve been signed by Stockholm Jazz Records, and we’re proud to be a part of their great collection of Swedish jazz artists.

It’s already possible to make a pre-order of the album in the Stockholm Jazz Records webshop, and the album can also be found in various online music stores such as cdon.com and ginza.se.

On Monday we begin our release tour, and on Friday the 2nd of April we will play the official release concert at Jazz Club Fasching in Stockholm. Hope we’ll see you there or at one of the other gigs of the tour, listed below.

Christmas Eve, and our last calendar window. We’re ending with the weirdest jazz clip I have ever seen.

For those of you not in to jazz this one might be a bit hard to grasp, but to explain, all the music in the video are very famous jazz standards. We get to hear songs like Now’s The Time, Blue Monk, Sister Sadie, Doxy, Donna Lee, Cherokee, Fables of Faubus, ‘Round Midnight & St Thomas + a few more. Hilarious! I wish I could understand what the story is.

I would also like to take the opportunity to wish you all a Merry Christmas. I’ve had a very nice day with the family gathered, lot’s of food and lot’s of laughter, the way it should be. Now the house is empty and silent again and I’m filled with the calming feeling of peace inside. I hope you all have a very peaceful and soothing night, let’s hope we can keep this feeling and take it with us into 2010. This world needs it more now than ever I think.

Michael Jackson Honour Concert Poster

November 13th, 2009. Fasching in Stockholm completely sold out. 16 musicians on stage. Everyone there for the music of one man: Michael Jackson.

I love the music of Michael Jackson and I’m honored that I got the chance to take part in a tribute concert to him at Fasching in Stockholm. Playing this night was amazing! Fasching was completely packed with people, the spirit in the audience and in the band was unbelievable and we had such a good time playing!

Unfortunately not everyone who wanted to see the concert could, since it was completely sold out, but hopefully there’ll be more chances in the future.

The goal of the concert was to play the music of Michael Jackson as true to the original as possible, with all sounds there. Not an easy task, his music is full of small details and I think I have never worked as much before a concert as we did before this one, everyone transcribing every little detail of the recordings. I’m glad we did though, because the result was truly amazing. Here’s a show reel from the concert, which I think captures the whole thing pretty well! Enjoy!
